My childhood violin teacher always told his students that after we learned a piece of music, we had to go "into the woodshed" to polish it up. This meant taking the piece apart, line by line, and working on it until the intonation, timing, dynamics, and phrasing all were perfect. This is the inspiration for my editing: an intensive process in which I go over a piece of writing, line by line, and polish it until the spelling, grammar, phrasing, tone, and word choice all are perfect.
