I provide three levels of editing services. Substantial Revision includes assessing your thesis or argument, and evaluating both the structure of individual paragraphs and the work as a whole. I look to see if your argument is supported throughout the piece or if additional information, discussion, or analysis is required. I also make sure the different elements of the piece work together to present a coherent narrative arc, and provide reorganization suggestions if necessary. When Line Editing, I polish up sentences so they are clear and flow smoothly, always ensuring that your--the author's--voice is preserved. Basic Copyediting and Proofreading entails scanning your document or website for spelling and grammar errors and tense and usage inconsistency. I conform all editing to your preferred style guide.

I do most of my editing over email, using Track Changes in Microsoft Word. However, when I'm revising my own writing, I prefer to print a hard copy and break out the red pen. If this is more your style, I'm happy to oblige! If you live in the Bay Area, I also am available to meet in person so we can work together on your manuscript.
Rates start at $50/hour for academic work* with a base charge of $100/project. I provide a quote for each job, taking into account the length of the document, how extensive the editing will be, and how quickly you need it back. In general, I turn around revisions in one week; rush jobs are subject to an additional fee. Multiple stage and large-scale revisions (such as the one described here) may take longer. I communicate regularly with my clients throughout the process.
